Gareth Thomas is Managing Director of Leeward’s British Virgin Islands (BVI) office, where he oversees operations, client delivery, and regulatory engagement. He leads the build-out of Leeward’s presence in the jurisdiction, with responsibility for service execution, compliance, and strategic growth.
With more than two decades of offshore leadership, Gareth has headed fiduciary businesses across the Caribbean, Bermuda, and the UK. Prior to Leeward, he spent 12 years as Managing Director of Ocorian BVI (formerly Appleby/Estera) and previously led Ogier’s fiduciary business as Group Service Line Leader for Corporate Services across the Caribbean and Hong Kong. He also served as General Manager of Conyers’ fiduciary arm in the BVI, following managerial corporate governance roles with Schroders plc and PwC in London.
Gareth’s expertise spans corporate governance, professional directorships, and trust administration. He has served on various BVI Government and Regulatory Advisory Committees, helping shape BVI legislation in Company Law, Economic Substance, Beneficial Ownership, and Financial Services generally. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute (FCG), a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), and holds an LL.B (Hons) Law degree from Liverpool John Moores University. A passionate Belonger of the BVI, he remains an active ambassador for the jurisdiction’s financial services industry and territory as a whole.
